Colon Hydrotherapy FAQ
What is the history of colon hydrotherapy?
The practice began in the ancient times in Egypt, as early as 1500 BC. Medical documents known as the “Eber Papyrus” reference enemas and colon hydrotherapy being used by physicians to treat fever and remove feces and mucus.
The ancient Greeks also used colonic irrigation to remove toxins for those with disease.
In the 19th century it was considered that the bacteria associated with the colon could be cleansed and toxins eliminated from the body by creating a flushing system that worked with gravity.
In 1908, Russian scientist Elie Metchnikoff received the Nobel Prize for research on immunity, and found that disease occurs due to the buildup of toxins in the body, finding that intestinal toxins actually shorten a person’s life. Soon, Sir. W Arbuthnot Lane found that the bowel was the source of many health problems and that toxins within the colon are the cause of many diseases.
What is Colon Hydrotherapy?
Colon hydrotherapy is the introduction of temperature regulated filtered water into the large intestine for the purpose of removing fecal mater and toxins. This is done without the use of drugs and is completely safe. The warm water softens and loosens the impacted waste which is then evacuated through the bodies natural peristalsis. This is repeated several times throughout the session.
Should I be embarrassed or fearful?
Absolutely not. Your body remains covered throughout the entire session. The waste tube is connected directly to the plumbing, which exposes no sound or smell to the client or therapist. At first you may feel nervous, that is totally normal. It is a new experience, but be assured that this is a safe space.
Is the treatment painful?
There should never be pain. The insertion of the small speculum takes only a few seconds and should not painful. After a minute or so most people become use to the sensation. You may experience a feeling of fullness in the abdomen and possibly slight cramping created by the pressure of the water. If you experience this or any other sensations please communicate that with me as there may be ways to make the experience more comfortable.
Is Colon Hydrotherapy safe and sanitary?
Yes. The equipment I use is FDA registered with a four part water filtration system. Always use a brand new, factory-sterilized and sealed, one time use speculums and hoses. Both of which are properly disposed of after each use. All surfaces and the restroom are sanitized after each client ensuring the space is always clean and ready for use. Colonics are very safe; the flow of filtered warm water into the body is extremely gentle and slow. Never exceeding a safe pressure.
How many colonics will I need?
The amount of treatments needed varies greatly between individuals and their goals. Often times, waste is so hard and toxins so accumulated in the colon, that it takes a series of colonics to sufficiently soften, loosen and flush the matter. No matter what you consider your diet program to be, whether low in fiber, high fiber, largely processed or all organic. If you find yourself regularly constipated or have daily bowel movements there is something that colonics can offer you. If you are on a detox program frequent treatments can greatly help. Cleansing triggers the body to dump toxins, colonics can help flush these toxins before they have the opportunity to be re absorbed in a process known as auto-intoxication. Ideally after your first colon hydrotherapy session you will have a second session within a day, two or within the week following. Thus allowing for us to continue the work much deeper into your colon allowing for greater release. Many clients and practitioners find series of sessions close together to be the most effective form of treatment. Once your colon has had a series of colonics you can transition to a maintenance protocol. What that time frame looks like may be different for everyone. For some its once or twice a month and for others just a few times a year. Often times as we become more in touch with our bodies they will tell us when it is time for additional treatments. This will be discussed further as we evaluate your progress and determine a series that will fit your goals, time and budget.
Will I feel any negative side effects?
Most clients only experience positive side effects. However, when toxins that have been lying dormant in the colon are being flushed out and stirred up, some may feel short waves of light-headedness or nausea during a session. These varying sensations and or emotions can sometimes be referred to as “cleansing crisis” If you experience any of these side effects please communicate with me . As there may be tools available to help these pass more quickly. As you go along with your cleansing program, you may have additional “cleansing crises”, do not feel discouraged by these signs of release. They are only temporary. In the end, most find they feel much better overall. Having a stronger feeling of health and well–being.
Is Colon Hydrotherapy habit forming?
Colon Hydrotherapy retrains the muscles of the bowel to regain strength and work better. An overall balanced diet is important for the body to function properly; it all goes hand in hand. When you have a weak bowel, you may observe a darkening of the stool because of the much longer transition time in your system. The result of this can be toxic decay, fermentation and putrefaction allowing the absorption of toxins into your blood stream, rather than regularly passing out of the body. Our goal is to help strengthen your colon. So that you will be able to go better on your own and keep your internal system in top shape.
Will laxatives or enemas accomplish the same results?
If you are trying to unplug or clean the lower part of the colon, an enema may help. However, an enema only has the potential to do about the lowest six inches where a colonic has the potential to do the full five and a half feet. Most laxatives are irritants to the colon and the body. Some laxatives work by drawing addition water into the bowel while others stimulate the intestinal walls. Though some movement may occur often impacted toxins and waste remain. Laxatives also have the ability to become habit forming. Thus weakening ones ability to have regular, healthy bowel movements on their own.
LENS Neurofeedback FAQ
What ailments are LENS treatments applicable for?
The LENS has been successfully applied to central nervous system functioning problems, such as symptoms of traumatic brain injury, stroke rehabilitation, fibromyalgia, depression and other mood and anxiety disorders, attention, hyper-activity, explosiveness/anger, and learning problems. Controlled studies on the LENS have been and are being conducted. Several university and medical human subjects review committees have reviewed the LENS treatment and have found it to be “minimally invasive.”
What are the effects of LENS treatments?
The LENS tends to make functioning clearer and easier. It has increased cognitive functioning (memory, concentration, attention, ability to learn and to read, organizing, and sequencing), motivation (initiating and completing activities), and motor skills (coordination, balance, grace, recovery from paralysis). It has elevated mood as an antidepressant. It has improved sleep at night, and reduced sleepiness during the day. It has increased energy and stamina. It has reduced seizures, explosiveness, irritability, spasticity, and background anxiety. It has reduced the symptoms of migraine and fibromyalgia pain, as well as Restless Legs problems.
Are there any side effects of LENS treatments?
Although no significant negative side effects have been observed so far, the non-significant ones that we have seen will be discussed with you by your LENS Clinician. Your understanding of them will help you work with us to provide successful treatment. The side effects sometimes seen with the LENS are in the form of temporary increases of the symptoms you already have. If you experience any side effects, let your LENS Clinician know so that they can work closely with you to adjust the dosage. This is done the same way your medications are adjusted by your physician.
